D AROMA INDIAN KITCHEN BUTTERWORTH invites diners to embark on a flavorful journey through authentic Indian cuisine right in the heart of Butterworth, Pulau Pinang. Nestled on the first floor of the Butterworth Business Centre, this cozy yet well-appointed restaurant masterfully marries traditional Indian flavors with a comfortable, air-conditioned dining setting, creating an inviting oasis for both locals and visitors.
The star attraction here is undoubtedly the carefully curated menu, showcasing a variety of classic Indian dishes that are both hearty and soul-satisfying. Food lovers will appreciate the signature Mutton Thali Set (MYR 31.60), where tender mutton swimming in rich, spiced gravy is paired with a medley of vegetable dishes and fluffy white rice—a perfect balance of textures and robust flavors that speak to Indian culinary roots. Equally enticing is the Fish Thali Set (MYR 27.50), featuring fresh fish simmered in a fragrant gravy that bursts with the tang of tamarind and warmth from traditional spices. Vegetarians are also well-catered for with the Vegetarian Thali Set, a vibrant assortment of vegetable delicacies that satisfy both the palate and the eye.
For something truly unique, the Manpanai Soru offerings offer a glimpse into time-honored Indian dining practices with fermented rice dishes—like the Manapanai Podi Meenu Set and Manapanai Nethile Tokku Set (both MYR 19.10)—accompanied by tangy lime, spicy chili, onions, and fragrant podi or nethile tokku, delivering a lively burst of flavors and textures that delight and surprise at every bite.
Seafood lovers will find delight in dishes like the Kerala Malabar Fish Curry (MYR 26.00), where fresh fish melds beautifully with creamy coconut and the subtle tartness of tamarind, perfectly capturing the essence of southern Indian coastal cuisine. Meanwhile, the Fish Fried (MYR 24.70) offers a freshly marinated fish that hints at garlic and curry leaves, fried to an irresistible golden crisp. For a smaller, crispy treat, the Podi Meen fried anchovies (MYR 4.80) add a satisfying crunch and depth of flavor.
The inviting ambiance enhances the overall dining experience; customers often praise the cool comfort of the air-conditioned space and the relaxed vibe created by its unique decor. Sitting by the large windows affords guests a pleasant view of the bustling streets below, blending the excitement of city life with the calmness of a tranquil meal.

New Indian Restaurant in Butterworth. The portion and taste of the food were good. Those who don’t prefer spicy foods might need to request upon ordering as most of the foods were spicy . I had to give 4 stars because I found that the prawns were not properly deveined and the fish fries were not marinated and cooked properly as only the batter was flavourful not the fish. The restaurant is nicely designed and quite spacious. Since it’s located at the first floor so it’s hard to access for elderly or disabled people. The other thing that needs to improve is the customer service. There were only 2 waitresses who were running around doing everything. They missed out my order which made my food served late. The side dishes were already cold by the time they served the rice. Hope they can improve their service and manpower in the future. Will definitely visit again in the future. We went there 2 days back to back. So the dishes we tried were Fish Thali meal, Chicken Thali meal, Tandoori chicken briyani, Sinthamani squid, chettinad prawn, chicken varuval, bhindi jaipuri, podi meen fry, fish fry, onion omelette, bru coffee, chai and masala chai.

Just the one of the taps unable to stop, the service is nice and the food is mouth watering. The spice is spicer than I thought and onions are very plenty to enjoying.

It's located at the first floor and I love that by sitting next to the huge windows allows you to watch the scene outside. The decor is unique and the air con coolness gives the dining experience a comfortable vibe. The staffs are friendly but a tad bit inexperienced I think. The menu itself is simple to navigate and the choices are numerous enough for a good meal. I tried the tosai and poori. I found the tosai delicious. Great chewiness. Smells delicious, pairs superbly with the 2 yummy chutney. Taste like tomato and mint / coriander with a coconut base. The sambar was ok but I felt was a little watered down. As for the poori, huge generous 2 pieces. I think it could've been better. A crispy thin layer on the poori base is what I usually enjoy in a poori and it's not perfect here. However it's adequately seasoned and has a great consistency. Please order the potato version. I loved the potato side dish. Soft well cooked potatoes with a great mix of spice and salt makes it an incredible combination with the poori. As for the drinks, they serve one of the better lassi I have tasted in this area. Lots of places serve light diluted lassi, fortunately the lassi here has a bit more body and yummy. The masala tea was deliciously boiling hot with a hint of spice. A good combo with the milk tea and luckily not overwhelmingly spiced up. Tbh this is a nice place to have Indian food. The biriyani looks enticing and a good future option.
